How Dental Insurance Works for Emergencies

Most dental insurance plans cover emergency exams and many emergency treatments. Here is how it typically works:

  • You call us. Tell us you have an emergency and give us your insurance information over the phone.
  • We verify your benefits. Before your appointment, we check your coverage, remaining annual maximum, and what percentage your plan pays for the treatment you need.
  • We give you an estimate. After the exam, we tell you the total cost and your estimated out-of-pocket portion based on your insurance coverage.
  • We file the claim. You pay your estimated portion at the time of service. We handle all the paperwork and file the claim directly with your insurance company.

Payment Options If You Do Not Have Insurance

About 40% of Americans do not have dental insurance. We treat patients every day who pay out of pocket, and we make it as straightforward as possible.

CareCredit Financing

Spread the cost over 6, 12, or 24 months. Apply online in minutes and get an instant decision. Some plans offer promotional no-interest financing.

Credit and Debit Cards

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Debit cards with a Visa or Mastercard logo are also accepted.

Upfront Pricing

We tell you the cost after the exam and before treatment. You decide how to proceed. No hidden fees, no surprise charges.

Priority-Based Treatment

If budget is tight, we address the most urgent issue first. Additional treatment can be scheduled when you are ready. We work with you.

What to Bring to Your Emergency Visit

  • Insurance card (if you have dental insurance)
  • Photo ID
  • List of current medications (including over-the-counter)
  • Payment method (credit card, debit card, or CareCredit card)
  • Any relevant dental records (if you have recent X-rays from another dentist, bring or have them sent)

When to Go to the Emergency Room Instead

Some dental situations need hospital care, not a dental office. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room if you have: facial swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, swelling spreading toward your eye or down your neck, uncontrolled bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure, or trauma suggesting a broken jaw. For all other dental emergencies, call us at 539-995-5962.
